SLIPKNOT Ain't Satanic, Fans Say

Cape Argus reports that fans of SLIPKNOT are furious at allegations that Monday's (August 18) Samurai-style killing of a Krugersdorp, South Africa schoolboy was the result of the band's "satanic" influence.

Jacques Pretorius, 16, died when a fellow schoolboy allegedly slashed his throat with a curved-blade Samurai sword. Three other people were injured at the school. School gardeners Joseph Kodeseng and Samson Malamela were released from hospital after treatment for knife wounds and an unnamed schoolboy is in a stable condition in hospital.

When the Cape Argus posted a request on SLIPKNOT's web site for comment from fans, replies streamed in.

Daniel Brinkmann, who lives in Cologne, wrote: "I think that extreme music often attracts extreme characters. I have been to 12 heavy metal festivals and I can assure you there is far less violence than at hip hop festivals.

"Metal is extreme, it is touching. Whether it has a cathartic effect or a violent one, or if people just like the music and don't pay any attention to the lyrics at all, is very subjective. I have listened to metal since 1993, have never been involved in a fight, and I am not the typical misfit guy despite having long hair."
